Loris Karius v Simon Mignolet: How Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp can solve goalkeeper dilemma

JURGEN KLOPP should make it clear who his preferred goalkeeper is to avoid conflict at Liverpool, according to Danny Mills.

Loris Karius paid the price for recent blunders as he was replaced by Simon Mignolet in the starting line-up for last night's 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough.

Klopp insisted that there's no time frame for Karius' return but Mills thinks the German should tell his players who's his preferred No.1 choice because players crave consistency.

Mills said: "I think it's difficult when your goalkeeper comes under an awful lot of scrutiny and a lot of pressure.

"We've seen it in the past with Joe Hart, who was left out for a few games and then came back very well at Manchester City.

"There's been an awful lot of speculation and talk about Loris Karius, and Jurgen Klopp may have decided that the pressure is a little bit too much.

"It's tough for a goalkeeper, one mistake and they've cost you a goal.

"We've always known that Simon Mignolet's a fantastic shot-stopper but I would question his presence in the 18-yard box and ability to deal with crosses under pressure - that's where he's struggled in the past.

"I don't think there a lot between the two keepers. That's the big problem at Liverpool.

"There's not a clear No.1 or No.2."

"Players like consistency. If you're going to be No.2 it's not a problem because you know you need to fight for the No.1 role.

"As long as Klopp makes who he prefers clear to the players, then there should't be too much of a problem."
