JOSE MOURINHO reportedly wants Manchester United to splash the cash on Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez.
Man United could spend £50m on Jose GimenezUnited's defence have not been up to scratch for much of the season so far and Mourinho is eager to bolster his back line over the coming transfer windows.He did spend £30m on Villarreal's Eric Bailly in the summer but his encouraging start to life at Old Trafford has been cut short by a knee injury.

Now Mourinho is looking into how he can improve his defence and has reportedly made 21-year-old Uruguayan international Gimenez his top target.The Mirror claim Mourinho wants his club to back him with a massive £50m offer to bring Gimenez to England.It is said that any such a deal for the young centre-half will likely have to wait until next summer rather than in January.Man United target Jose Gimenez in action for Atletico MadridThe Mirror add that Arsenal have been interested in the Atletico star in the past but were scared off by his asking price.Gimenez is under contract in Spain until 2018 and has reportedly attracted interest from all of Europe’s top clubs.He joined Atletico from Uruguayan side Danubio in 2013 for a fee of around £800,000.He has featured regularly for them over the past two seasons but made just two appearances so far this term after picking up an injury in late September.
