A public caning is just one of the punishments handed out to people breaking Sharia law – which is the main legal system of Islam.
During the ceremony at the beginning of March, eighteen locals were whipped for violating the Sharia law.
They were punished for reportedly gambling, drinking alcohol and for dating.
Other snaps show crowds watching on as men - including one on crutches - receive repeated canings.
Islamic laws have been strengthened since the Aceh province struck a peace deal with the central government in 2005.
Last month, the local government banned Valentine's Day celebrations, including giving cards or chocolates, deeming it an 'unlawful act' under Sharia.
