But no group has yet claimed responsibility for the atrocity, on March 4.
Now a online campaign has been launched to "Pray for Father Tom" - amid serious concerns he could face the same fate as Jesus.
It comes as millions of believers across the globe prepare to mark Christ's crucifixion tomorrow.
A Facebook post by the Franciscan Sisters of Siessen, based in South Africa, has been shared more than 100,000 times.
Her account was reported in the Christian Post, which said: "They were killed one by one. They tied them to trees, shot them in the head and smashed their heads."
"These ISIS men were everywhere, searching for her, as they knew there were five (nuns).
"At least three times they came into the refrigerator room. She did not hide, but remained standing behind the door — they never saw her.
"This is miraculous".
Father Tom's colleagues have denied the reports.
But they have been unable to confirm the priest's whereabouts and whether he is alive or dead.
Father Tom is thought to be one of only two Catholic priests working in war-torn Yemen.
He volunteered to remain despite being urged to leave as violence rips the country apart.
Dozens of people have also supported the campaign on Twitter.
