'Hiding HIV caused me to go off the rails' Charlie Sheen opens up on diagnosis

CHARLIE Sheen has opened up about living with HIV, admitting keeping the disease a secret caused him to go "off the rails."

The star went public with his condition last November during a live TV appearance – admitting he had known his situation for around four years.
Speaking frankly about the diagnosis, the actor said: "I'm doing really well.
"It was hard to deal with at first and really difficult to maintain the secrecy behind it as a lot of folks took advance of my condition and tried to exploit and blackmail me.
"The fact I was hiding the news that made me go off the rails there was something happening every day.
"It was an auto response as a way to deal with it – I stopped seeing myself as a victim and saw myself as a potential hero for others.
"I have just accepted that this is now a part of my life and it is a lot easier to live with."

However, despite admitting the virus initially knocked him back, Charlie says he is determined to fight the condition.
"I am actually involved with a FTA trial where it is going to change the immediate landscape of HIV treatment," he continued to the Sheffield Star.
"It's a shot once a week compared to taking pills every day - I'm in my third week of it now and I feel fantastic.
"We are heading past treatment phase on it and approaching a cure.
"It is a reality check, when I was diagnosed I was like, 'holy s***, how did we wind up here?'"
