JOSE MOURINHO has been appointed the new Manchester United boss.
Football’s worst kept secret was finally out today following hours of talks between United chiefs and Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes.
The Special One left his house dressed in a smart black suit in the high-end area of Belgravia in London shortly after 3pm today.
Mourinho then met club officials, including executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, to sign the deal.
He returned home around two hours later clutching a bag carrying a bottle of wine with some good news to toast.
United have yet to confirm the announcement on their official site but that may change this evening.
Mourinho had a photoshoot with United today where he posed for pictures to accompany the club's official release.
The contract he has penned will see Mourinho earn around £10m a year to take charge.
On top of that, he will pocket a staggering £5m bonus if he makes United kings of Europe again.
Starsport understands his deal will also be heavily incentivised and include massive bonuses to reward success.
Mourinho will trouser an extra £5m if he lands the Champions League and £2.5m if he wins the Premier League.
United legend Rio Ferdinand was one of the first to congratulate Mourinho on the move.
He wrote on Facebook: “Congratulations to Jose on being announced manager of the biggest club in the world!
“This is Jose Mourinho's most exciting and most challenging job yet.
“The first thing he needs to do is install 'winning mentality' back into the club. Get this ingredient back into the players but also the people that work inside the club day to day.
“Give them back that belief so it is breathing throughout the club again, which is so important. But doing the above in the Manchester United way is equally as important.”
Mourinho arrives with Rui Faria in tow as his trusted assistant.
United’s billionaire American owners the Glazers are convinced Mourinho has what it takes to transform the club into a dominant force once again and are willing to reward him accordingly.
Mourinho has won the European Cup twice along with eight domestic titles with four different clubs in a glittering managerial career so far.
As revealed by Starsport in March, United are willing to offer him a staggering deal worth £275,000-a-week at Old Trafford.
The striker is available on a free transfer after leaving Paris St-Germain at the end of the season and has set his heart on joining United.
He played under Mourinho at Inter Milan and reckons the former Chelsea boss is the man to make United great again.
