UEFA open disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool and Sevilla fans after mass brawl

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool and Sevilla fans after a mass brawl erupted before kick-off in the Europa League Final.

Riot police moved into position to deal with the carnage as Sevilla fans were allegedly the aggressors in the incident.
The two sets of fans were reportedly only separated by an aisle and no stewards were in attendance.
Bottles were reportedly thrown in the violent exchange before stewards were able to escort troublemakers away from the scene.
Disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Liverpool for crowd disturbances and the setting off of fireworks – and Sevilla for crowd disturbances and the throwing of objects during Wednesday's Europa League final, UEFA has announced.

Riot police were forced to stand guard in front of Liverpool supporters in the stands after the incident.
The scenes were an ugly reminder of football hooliganism off the pitch – amid fears of clashes between England and Russia fans at Euro 2016.
Earlier, manager Jurgen Klopp told his players they can become legends with victory in tonight's game.
But it was the Spanish Europa League specialists Sevilla who ultimately prevailed 3-1.

Local police were expecting to welcome over 100,000 fans to the city.
They had claimed they were ready to welcome fans but warned those without tickets "won't get close" to the St Jakob-Park stadium.
"Latest numbers show us we are looking at 30 to 40,000 but it is hard to say," Swiss police chief Andreas Knuchel said earlier.
There has been criticism of Uefa's decision to told the Europa League final at Basel's St Jakob-Park stadium, where the capacity is only 35,000.
Liverpool fans have been allocated just 10,000 of those seats.
Victory would see the Merseyside club qualify for the Uefa Champions League competition.
