GABOR KIRALY was the hero as the ‘Pyjama Man’ kept a clean sheet against 10-man Austria to mark entering the record books.
Adam Szalai and Zoltan Stieber scored to seal Hungary’s first victory in the finals since 1964.
Kiraly, 40, wore his customary grey tracksuit bottoms which earned him his nickname – and stole the show.
Hungary coach Bernd Storck said: “He is still one of the best keepers in the world. He contributed to this victory and that was his reward for his hard work over the years.”
The former Crystal Palace star, who overhauled Lothar Matthaus as the oldest man to play at the Euros, produced a string of fine saves.
Kiraly foiled David Alaba, who hit the post after 28 seconds, in the early exchanges and then made further saves to defy Zlatko Junuzovic and Stoke’s Marko Arnautovic late on.
Alex Dragovic’s 66th-minute dismissal for a second bookable offence helped Hungary.
Four minutes earlier Szalai had fired them ahead and substitute Stieber wrapped it up three minutes from time.
Austria boss Marcel Koller said: “It is not a good start.”
