ANTONIO CONTE's Chelsea appointment is looking better and better with every passing day, former winger Pat Nevin believes.
IMPRESSIVE: Pat Nevin has hailed new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte
Conte will take up his role at the Stamford Bridge helm after his commitments with Italy at Euro 2016 are seen through.
Conte has lead the Azzurri impressively at the tournament and faces a quarter-final meeting with world champions Germany on Saturday.
His performances in France have given Chelsea fans much to get excited about and Nevin reckons the ex-Juventus chief will be a huge hit in west London.
Speaking exclusively to Starsport, Nevin said: "I've been stunningly impressed with Conte and how well structured and well organised Italy have been at the Euros.
"It was a big and correct call to leave Mario Balotelli out, that's not what you need and he's a man that will make those big calls, it doesn't matter how big the name is, he'll make those calls.
"You really wouldn't want to cross him and considering what happened to Chelsea last year, I think they do need a strong individual.
"I thought it was a decent enough decision from the club when they announced it and now every day it looks a better and better and better decision."
The 22-year-old Belgium striker is expected to be the first of several signings for the Blues this summer.
Nevin, who played for Chelsea for five season in the 1980s, reckons his old club do not need too many new faces in this transfer window and Conte should instead focus on getting the best out of what he already has.
Nevin added: "Like any manager, in any line of work, you need to get the best out of the individuals that are working beneath you.
"That's the first thing you have to do as manager, all the technical and tactical stuff comes after that.
"You look around the Chelsea squad and there is a lot of very good players.
"I expect they will spend money to get more good players in but the market is absolutely limited at the moment. Man United, City, Arsenal, everyone is chasing the same very small number of good players.
"He definitely needs two or three new players and needs more in defence but it's also about getting the best out of the players he's got there already.
"I reckon if he gets a new striker, gets the best out of Hazard, a bit more steal in midfield and maybe one more centre-back then Bob's your uncle."
