WESTMINSTER Bridge has been shut and a bomb squad has descended on it amid dramatic scenes.
Pictures show police and the fire service have cordoned off the bridge which connects Waterloo Station and the Houses of Parliament.
A "suspicious vehicle" is reportedly at the centre of the security alert.
The alert comes as thousands of people start their commutes home from the area.

A vote of no confidence in Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is currently ongoing in the House of Commons near to the scene.
The Commons library was evacuated and those inside the Palace of Westminster have been advised to step away from the windows, according to MP Nadine Dorries.
But witnesses have told Daily Star Online that the bridge has been reopened.
What caused the alert, believed to revolve around a deserted Smart car, is not yet known.
