CHRISTIAN BENTEKE wants to stay at Liverpool but will leave if he’s not in Jurgen Klopp’s plans.
By Jonathan Green
The striker joined the Reds last summer from Aston Villa in a £32.5m deal but struggled to make an impact at Anfield.
He scored just 10 goals in 42 appearances and was often consigned to being a substitute following Klopp’s arrival in October.
The German boss instead preferred Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge or Roberto Firmino as his starting striker.
"I was prepared for what I went through [last season at Liverpool]. I knew that if I had mixed performances I would be criticised. That's what happened.
"When he [Klopp] arrived, I saw that I wasn't in his plans. That was frustrating because I knew that during my first season at Aston Villa he wanted me.
"But we had several discussions together - I respect and I understand his decisions."
