MATILDA actress Mara Wilson has opened up about her sexuality following the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando on Sunday.
Mara says she has "embraced" the "bi label" as she took to social media to openly discuss her sexuality.
The child star – who is also known for her roles in Mrs Doubtfire and Miracle on 34th Street – explained that she felt compelled to open up to fans following the tragic attack.
The shooting at Orlando's Pulse nightclub marks the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history, with 49 people killed.
Mara shared a photo of herself in a gay club from 10 years ago, writing: "Me at a gay club when I was eighteen. I feel embarrassed looking at it now.
"Being a 'straight girl' where I clearly didn't belong, but I will say, I felt so welcomed there.
"I have never had a better experience at a club than I did then. Great music and people. And one of my friends met his partner that night!
"I haven't been to one since college, except once when a friend brought me along. I didn't feel like I belonged there.
"But the LGBTQ community has always felt like home, especially a few years later when I, uh, learned something about myself. So thank you."
A fan then responded to ask: "Does this mean you are bisexual, nonbinary..? It's nice to have people who we can look up to that have a known name."
Mara, 28, replied: "Let me put it this way: I'm a 2," referring to the Heterosexual-Homosexual Rating Scale, known as The Kinsey Scale.
According to that scale, Mara defines herself a "predominantly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual".
She went on: "I know a lot of people don't like the Kinsey scale, and that is fine by me. But I'm pragmatic at heart and find comfort in numbers."
She was then flooded with support from fans and she told her 274,000 followers: "Your support is much appreciated. I will say, though, I'm still gonna be pretty private about my relationships, as I always have been."
However, one follower appeared to somewhat lash out, writing: "On the one hand, I love @MaraWritesStuff for being open about her sexuality. In the other hand, I wish she wouldn't describe as.....'mostly straight'.
"There is a word for that: bisexual. Using other words perpetuates myths & increase #biphobia."
Mara then hit back, saying: "I said I *used* to identify as mostly straight. I've embraced the Bi/Queer label lately."
