Chelsea have signed Matt Miazga from New York Red Bulls, the Premier League club have announced.
The 20-year-old centre-half has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract and replaces Papy Djilobodji, sent on loan to Werder Bremen after failing to play a minute of Premier League football.
The United States international told the Chelsea website: “I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, a world-famous club with a reputation for major success. I am delighted to be in the Premier League, the best league in the world, and can’t wait to meet my team-mates and get going. “I am still at the beginning of my career but I believe this is the place to develop and learn from some of the best players in the world.”
Guus Hiddink said on Friday that Miazga has been signed as a squad player to provide back-up to John Terry, Kurt Zouma and Gary Cahill.
