Homicide? Policeman Shoots 12-year-old Girl But Her Dad Gets Charged for Her Death

A police officer shot at and killed a young girl but everyone was shocked when her own father became the suspected killer.

The Pennsylvania father of a 12-year-old was charged with her murder after a police constable mistakenly shot the girl when he was aiming for the rifle-toting dad in self-defense.

Ciara Meyer, of Penn Township, Penn., was killed on Jan. 11 on a day she stayed home sick from school after her father pulled a loaded rifle on police Constable Clarke Steele, serving him eviction papers, prompting the constable to fire back.

The bullet went through the reckless man’s arm and struck Ciara, who was standing behind her father, in the chest. Donald Meyer, 57, was charged with homicide on Friday for triggering the events that led to his daughter's death.

It was Meyer's "extremely reckless actions” that indirectly led to his daughter's death, according to District Attorney Andrew Bender.

Meyer faces charges of homicide, involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of children and two counts of aggravated assault, including terrorist threats and reckless endangerment. However he denies responsibility for his daughter’s death.

“They’re responsible for the murder and shooting of my daughter and me, and now it’s a big cover up,” he said.“They’re charging me with a felony for protecting my family?” Meyer told CBS 21 as he was escorted out of the magistrate's office in an orange jump suit.
