Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, has ordered the release of 10,000 tonnes of grains from the National Strategic Grains Reserves for national distribution.
The President hopes the decision to release grains will counter food price increases and the intolerably high exploitation of common people by the traders.
President Buhari also directed the Minister of Agriculture to ensure that all the able-bodied men and women in Internally Displaced Persons’ camps would be assisted to return to farming immediately.
A statement by a spokesman for the President, Mr Garba Shehu, said the devastation of the economy was caused by the Boko Haram insurgency, corruption and the lack of planning by the past administrations.
This according to the President should not be blamed on the Change Agenda of his administration.
The Statement added that the President understood the pain and the cries of Nigerians and was spending sleepless nights over how he could make life better for everyone.
