ISIS militants have killed a hostage six months after they first captured him.
John Ridsdel, from Calagary, Canada, was was one of four people kidnapped in the Philippines in by Abu Sayyaf militants last year.
Officials in the country confirmed his death as cops said they found his severed head.
The sick discovery was made just hours after a $6.5 million ransom deadline passed this morning.
It was previously thought that government forces were moving in to rescue the Canadians and a Norwegian after the Islamic extremists said they would behead one of them if they didn't receive the ransom cash.
Mr Ridsdel, 68, was on holiday last September when he was kidnapped by gunmen from a marina on the southern Samal Island.
The other hostages were Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad, who was the resort's marina manager, Canadian Robert Hall and his Filipino girlfriend Marites Flor.
They are believed to have been held at Jolo Island in Sulu, a jungle-filled area where the militants are thought to have others.
Two days ago, military intelligence in the country indicated all of them were alive.
Ridsdel was the the former chief operating officer of mining company TVI Resource Development Philippines Inc., a subsidiary of Canada's TVI Pacific, where he was a consultant, a company officer said.
The status of the other hostages is unclear at this time.
