LIVERPOOL PLACE BID FOR VERMAELEN
According to reports in Spain, Liverpool have made a £7.5million offer for Barcelona centre-back Thomas Vermaelen. The former Arsenal captain has failed to make an impact at the Catalan giants since his £15million move there in 2014.
Considering the defender has only made 11 appearances in his time at the Camp Nou, it’s hard to think the player would be a good signing following his recent injury issues. However, the report says the Reds want to land the 30-year-old this summer and they could do with some extra bodies at the back with Mamadou Sakho facing a potential ban after his failed drugs test.
Apparently Barcelona will wait to try and drum up some more interest before deciding on whether to sell up.
MANCHESTER UNITED RENEW INTEREST IN KROOS
Ever since Toni Kroos moved to Real Madrid from Bayern Munich there have been constant mumblings of a possible transfer to Manchester United. Today was no different, as the Daily Mirror claim that the Red Devils are “back in the hunt” for the 26-year-old.
Kroos is unlikely to fit into Louis van Gaal’s plans as the Dutchman supposedly pulled the plug on the deal that would have seen the Germany international arrive at Old Trafford and not the Bernabeu in 2014. So, if Kroos wouldn’t be an Van Gaal-style signing then maybe United are preparing for life under another more Portuguese manager. You can see where they’re going with it.
Having played a lot this season, it isn’t certain whether Real Madrid would be prepared to let Kroos leave the club, but he has said in the past that he would like to play in English football one day.
ARSENAL AIM TO BEAT EVERYONE TO IBRAHIMOVIC DEAL
On to the Daily Star, who claim that Arsenal are planning a “stunning” deal to bring Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the Emirates. Arsene Wenger is targeting him in an attempt to strengthen his much-maligned strikeforce and to keep the Arsenal fans at bay for another season.
The Frenchman finds himself under pressure from the Gunners faithful after another campaign of underachievement and, with their top scorers Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud on 12 goals each for the season, this rumour could make sense. According to the Daily Star, Wenger is set to get over his phobia of paying over the odds in wages for players, by taking an “active interest” in securing a deal for Ibrahimovic.
Manchester United and the Chinese Super League (obviously) are also thought to be interested in landing the PSG star, who is a free agent in the summer.
AND THE REST
Everton are keen on making Mark Hughes their next manager, with Roberto Martinez nearing the axe… Ronald Koeman surprisingly tops Arsenal’s list of potential successors to Arsene Wenger… Bayern Munich in talks with Borussia Dortmund over reported Liverpool target Mats Hummels… N’Golo Kante told he can leave Leicester City in the summer as long as the club can line up a replacement for him, while Arsenal have reportedly made him their top summer target… Lazio want to sign striker Graziano Pelle from Southampton… Barcelona are considering putting defender Marc Bartra this summer, with the fee rumoured to be just £9.3million… Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan likely to be incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte’s first signing as talks between the clubs hit an advanced stage.
Why Vermaelen when they already have Skrtel and the Camerounian from Shalke?
