Liverpool ordered to pay record fee for star striker following Premier League tribunal

LIVERPOOL will pay Burnley a record £6.5m for Danny Ings.

CROCKED: Ings hasn't played since last October
And he could end up costing £8m including add-ons in the deal set out by a tribunal.
Ings, 23, joined the Reds last summer on a free transfer after his contract ran out with the Clarets.
But because of his age, Burnley were due compensation.
Both clubs failed to agree on a fee so it went to a Premier League tribunal which sat in Manchester on Tuesday.
The outcome sees Liverpool pay £6.5m now and then a further £1.5m in add-ons for the England international.
Liverpool had made an offer of £6m for the striker but Burnley wanted more, citing a reported £12m bid from Tottenham for the striker last year.
Chelsea paid Manchester City an initial £3.5m for Daniel Sturridge in 2009 in a deal with add-ons and a 15 per cent sell on clause.
Ings has not played for Liverpool since suffering a knee ligament injury in October.
His last game for the Reds was the Merseyside derby on October 4, the final game of manager Brendan Rodgers’ reign at the club.
Liverpool will also have to give the Championship club 20 per cent of any future profit from the sale of the striker.
A Liverpool statement said: "Liverpool Football Club would like to thank the PFCC panel for their time and diligence in deciding this matter.
“We believe the process was conducted fairly and we respect the outcome.
“We are pleased for Danny Ings, in particular, that this chapter is now complete and he can look forward to a long and successful career at Liverpool.”
Burnley Football Club Chief Executive, Mr David Baldwin, said: “We acknowledge and accept the tribunal’s decision.
“We feel we must reiterate this is an unprecedented record payment for training compensation and not a transfer fee.
“As the initial fee decided by the committee represents almost double the previous record for a tribunal, this fully justifies our decision to press ahead with what we felt was a fair reflection of the part Burnley Football Club played in Danny’s development.”
