MEXICO sealed their place in the last eight of the Copa America thanks to goals from Javier Hernandez and Oribe Peralta in the 2-0 win over Jamaica.
The victory also means Uruguay are eliminated and Venezuela will be in the quarter-finals of the tournament despite being rank outsiders.
The match was a close affair with the quality of finishing in front of goal proving the difference.
Hernandez sent Mexico on their way to their 11th straight win with a pinpoint glancing header as he rose above Leicester’s Premier League title winner, Wes Morgan.
But Jamaica could have been on level terms on several occasions with veteran forward Clayton Donaldson testing Guillermo Ochoa in goal.
And it wasn’t until the 81st minute the sea of Mexico fans in the stadium could relax when substitute Oribe Peralta slotted home to make it 2-0.
That was after Jamaica had an obvious penalty appeal turned down which would have seen them have the opportunity to equalise and keep their Copa America dream alive.
