A GORGEOUS grandma reveals how she got the toned body of a woman half her age.
Wendy Ida may be 64 but her honed physique means strangers often mistake her for someone in her 30s.
To keep her six-pack in check, Wendy puts in between one and a half and two hours at the gym every day.
The grandma-of-three started toning up at the age of 43 after ending an abusive relationship which left her self-esteem at rock bottom.
She said: "I wanted to clear my head and exercise was an escape. I didn't think I would survive the relationship, so when I did, I knew I had to change something."
Her intense workout regime saw Mrs Ida lose 5st 7lbs and now she boasts a washboard stomach and sculpted abs.
Wendy explained: "It's amazing. I was 13st 9lbs when I started out. I yo-yoed up and down but now weigh 9st. I'm over the moon at my size.
"I'm at the right size. This is my ideal weight. It's perfect for me. I feel good."
But Wendy’s incredible bodybuilder transformation didn’t come easily.
Although the change wasn’t overnight, Wendy began slimming down thanks to a combination of weight training and cardio as well as running, salsa and hip-hop dancing.
The fitness fanatic entered her first bodybuilding competition just before her 57th birthday and took home three trophies – coming second place for women over 18, second for women over 35 and first for women over 45.
Since then Wendy, from California, US, has been a national champion eight times.
Explaining her intense training regime, she said: "Before each contest, I work out seven days a week and do weights every day.
"I go in to contest mode and eat egg whites and proteins, fish and vegetables. It's hard on the body."
The ripped nan has also won two Guinness World Records, one for the oldest active instructor and the other for doing 37 burpees in one minute.
Now she is helping other women to move on from their troubled pasts by getting active.
She's also helped her own family to get in shape by motivating her 54-year-old husband Art to lose 4st in six months and her 41-year-old daughter Sky to shed 2st.
The gym bunny said: "Exercise helped me with my confidence, then I started helping other women too.
"I want to be an inspiration to everyone who says: 'I'm too old and can't do it'.
"Do a little exercise and work your way up and don't take no for an answer. If you don't bother, you'll lose energy and it gets tougher.
"You need to take baby steps if you want to keep your body for a lifetime like I did."
