Horror as 'attacker threatened to burn Muslim woman alive unless she removed her hijab'

A “HEAVILY intoxicated” man threatened to burn a Muslim student alive unless she removed her hijab in the middle of a US university campus.

The alleged attacker, described by witnesses as a “white male in his 20s or 30s, with an athletic-build”, reportedly forced the woman to remove her headdress during the horrific attack which took place on Friday.

The horrified victim, gave into the “unkempt” attacker’s demand by removing her hijab and fleeing from the scene at the Ann Arbor campus in the University of Michigan, US.

According to a member of staff from the University's Division of Public Safety and Security, the incident has been logged as a “hate crime”.

In a statement released on Saturday afternoon, Michigan University’s public safety officials are “very concerned and disturbed” by the alleged crime.

Nightmare on US campus

The statement read: “Officers are conducting additional patrols in that area and the Ann Arbor police are actively investigating.”

Sergeant Patrick Maguire said: “We are actively investigating. We are soliciting information from anyone who may have witnessed this incident.”

The incident comes immediately after a surge in reports of threats and harassment within the US, since the election of Donald Trump.

Despite promising to become a “President for all Americans”, Trump’s campaign rhetoric against Mexicans, Muslims, immigrants and the LGBT community has fuelled protests and riots throughout the country.
