The German midfielder is back in the first-team fold at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourino banished the veteran star to the reserves and told him to find a new club over the summer.
But the Man United manager has now invited Schweinsteiger back to train with his first-team squad.
Starsport understands Mourinho has only included the World Cup winner to put him in the shop window for January.
And Bayern chairman Rummenigge hopes United follow through with getting the 32-year-old off the books.
“My wish for him is that they find a solution when the transfer window opens again in January,” he told German newspaper Bild.

“It is difficult to manage a generation change.
“But you always have to remain tactful and understanding.”
Schweinsteiger made 31 appearances for Louis van Gaal last season after he was signed from Bayern.
