The billionaire business tycoon is entitled to claim $400,000 when he moves into the White House on January 10 next year.
But Trump – who is estimated to be worth $3.7billion (£2.9billion) – will trouser only $1 of of the eye-watering sum.
In his first TV interview as President-elect, Trump was grilled by Lesley Stahl of CBS News for 60 minutes over his vision to “Make America Great Again”.

Trump was held to account over a series of controversial campaign pledges, including his plan to build a “big, powerful beautiful” wall on the Mexican border.
Less than a week after his Brexit-style election win, Trump has already backtracked on several key campaign promises.
During the interview on Sunday Stahl asked Trump whether he would still build the wall, to which he replied “definitely yes”.
But after boasting about being “very good” at construction, he admitted that the wall might be a fence in some places.

Trump also vowed to “immediately” deport or imprison three million illegal immigrants with criminal records.
He insisted that once the border is “secure” and “everything gets normalised” there be will “determinations” to decided who gets booted out or locked up.
He said: “After the border is secured and after everything gets normalised, we're going to make a determination on the people that you’re talking about who are terrific people, they're terrific people but we are going to make a determination at that.
"But before we make that determination, it's very important we are going to secure our border."
Repealing the Roe v Wade abortion law was also on the agenda after pro-life Trump suggested he would appoint a Supreme Court justice to overturn the 1973 decision.

Under the federal law women are legally entitled to have an abortion in any US state.
But Trump suggested abortion could be a states’ right issue – meaning women could have to travel to different states where the practice is not banned.
Stahl asked: “'But then some women won't be able to get an abortion?
Trump replied: “Yeah, well, they'll perhaps have to go, they'll have to go to another state.”
On his Presidential opponent Hillary Clinton Trump swered the question about appointing a special prosecutor to probe her emails.
During the race for the White House, he branded Clinton “crooked”, a “puppet” and a “nasty woman”.
But Trump told Stahl that he didn’t want to hurt “good people”.

Millions of disenfranchised working class voters propelled Trump into the Oval Office after one of the most divisive election campaigns in history.
His shock victory sparked protests across the country as tens of thousands of pro-Cinton supporters stormed the streets chanting “not my President”.
Stahl also interviewed new First Lady Melania and his older children Ivanka, Tiffany, Eric, and Donald, Jr.
Melania admitted that her husband sometimes goes too far on Twitter but ultimately “he will do what he wants”.
