Anja Ringgren Loven, an aid worker who founded African Children's Aid Education and Development foundation could be seen handing the starving little boy a packet of biscuits in a desperate bid to bring him back to health.
But just eight weeks on from the when the original snap was taken, Hope has been completely transformed into a happy, healthy little boy.
Anja, who is Dutch but living in Uyo, Nigeria, has shared a series of pictures showing Hope looking completely different from when his story was first shared.
Hope has had to be taken into hospital when Anja found him and given medication to remove the worms from his stomach.

He also needed several blood transfusions to incorporate more red blood cells into his body.
It is thought that Hope was originally abandoned by family in his small African village because he was suspected to be a witch.
But in the two months he has been in Anja's care, Hope has gained weight and is smiling for the camera.
"As you can see on the pictures, Hope is really enjoying his life now having 35 new brothers and sisters who all take such good care of him, play with him, study with him and make sure he is safe and getting a lot of love," she said.
Anja's original Facebook post about Hope got over 15,000 shares and when she appealed for donations on social media to help with his healthcare costs, people pledged over $1million (£600,000).
