REVEALED: The apocalyptic nightmare if a nuke was detonated in the West

William J Perry, the US’s 19th secretary of defence, has created a bleak five-minute film warning the nightmare outcome if a nuke was detonated in Washington DC.
Dr Perry, who served under Bill Clinton’s administration from 1994 to 1997, is educating the world on the dangers of nuclear war through The William J Perry Project.

He admits the events are hypothetical but stresses the content is the “plausible outcome of the very real dangers we currently face”.
Dr Perry’s short film is based in Washington DC, the capital of the US.
The 88-year-old envisages a breakaway faction from the country’s security forces enriching uranium to build a nuclear bomb.

PLOT: The bomb is ready
The weapon is transferred to an airfield before it’s loaded onto an aircraft packaged as agricultural equipment.
The situation escalates once it is placed into a courier van and detonated in the heart of Washington by the driver.
The explosion kills 80,000 people instantly with a force of 15 kilotons.
The president and vice-president are killed, bringing chaos to American security.
More than 100,000 people are seriously wounded but there is nowhere to treat them.

A nuclear explosion
DISASTER: The nuke explodes – wiping out 80,000 people instantly
Fear is spread as news reports document the scenes of devastation.
News broadcasters receive a message simultaneously revealing five other bombs are hidden in cities across the country – and one a week will be detonated unless all American troops abroad are brought home.
Looting and riots erupt across the panicked population and the country has no option but to introduce Martial Law.
Shots are fired at the public to bring calm but rioting against immigrants and foreigners increases.
Huge detention centres are built across America to deal with the ever-growing disorder in the country.

CHILLING: A former defence expert has envisaged a nuclear armageddon
Dr Perry said: “This is my nuclear nightmare.
“Although it is hypothetical, it is a plausible outcome of the very real dangers we currently face.
“We can hardly bear to image this catastrophic outcome, and yet we must.”
The increasing threat of a nuclear war shows little sign of faltering as nations continue to test missiles capable of carrying nukes – and terrorists continue to strive for weapons of mass destruction.

President Barack Obama revealed last week how ISIS want to kill as many people as possible by obtaining a nuke.
North Korean tyrant Kim Jong-un sparked more war fears by launching ballistic missiles.
Alex Wellerstein put together an interactive map revealing how anywhere in the world would fair if a weapon of mass destruction was launched.
