ANTONIO CONTE admits the potential for crowd trouble at the London Stadium tonight will not stop him whipping up Chelsea fans.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is hoping to gee the Blues fans up at the London Stadium
Conte was accused of “humiliating” Jose Mourinho by urging Blues supporters to show more passion during Manchester United’s 4-0 thrashing at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
But the Italian has told Slaven Bilic he will not be toning down his touchline antics for the first big test of security at West Ham’s new home.
“My message to the fans is I always appreciated a lot the behaviour of our fans when we played away. In every single moment.
“They are always behind us. This is very important. I want this. Our fans if they want we can play with 12 players.
“I hope to see a good atmosphere. I know these two teams are big rivals but in England the atmosphere is fantastic during the match and I hope to see this.
“Sometimes I’d like to be a manager who stays seated. But it’s very difficult for me. I want to help my players. I stay there to support them.
“If we win or lose we are always together. I am exhausted at the end of every game.”
West Ham boss Slaven Bilic will share the touchline with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte
West Ham have beefed up security after a series of violent incidents this season and have vowed to take a zero tolerance policy with troublemakers.
But while extra police and stewards will be on duty, there will be NO pre-match segregation, and police will NOT deploy inside the ground unless there is trouble.
Chelsea’s travelling army of almost 5,200 fans have been urged to arrive early because enhanced body searches could delay entry to the ground.
There will be a booze ban outside the venue and a “safety cordon” will be in place after the match, when all bars will shut. Local pubs have been asked to close between 6-8pm.
So far there have been 23 banning orders, nine arrests, hundreds of complaints and 548 fans demanding to move seats at the former Olympic Stadium this season.
But when asked if there are safety issues at the ground a spokesman for the club and the bodies responsible for the venue said: “No. Categorically not.”
Chelsea released a statement yesterday saying: “We ask all supporters to remain respectful and refrain from any form of offensive or discriminatory behaviour.”
Meanwhile, Conte is set to restore skipper John Terry to his starting line-up tonight along with Brazilian midfielder Willian.
