Jose Mourinho: My Manchester United players need to man up

JOSE MOURINHO is refusing panic but has ordered his Manchester United players to man up.

The Old Trafford boss is still seething after being humiliated on Sunday when his former clubChelsea thrashed Manchester United 4-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Next up tomorrow are next door neighbours Manchester City in an EFL Cup fourth round, Mourinho can ill afford to lose on home soil.
“There is no way to hide because I think our faces speak by themselves,” said Mourinho.
“We are really, really sad but again this is not for kids, this is for men and tomorrow we have to be men and work for the next one.

“The miilions of fans we have all around the world will obviously have a bad feeling. I feel sorry for that. I have to apologise for that as leader of this dressing room.
“There is only one answer, like I was telling the players. Train and keep fighting. Now we need to win matches.”
If he didn’t realise before Mourinho now knows just how big the rebuilding job at Old Trafford is after three years of crumbling since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
Not even the £150m spent in the summer seems to have sorted out the foundations with United already six points off leaders City in the Premier League title race having lost three games.
To put that in perspective, it took 18 months and 64 games for Mourinho to lose three in the league at Chelsea during his first spell and just nine games and 80 days at Old Trafford to do likewise.
Mourinho has also lost 13 of his last 27 Premier League games as a manager and his previous 13 defeats came over a span of 135 league games so he could be forgiven for suffering a crisis of confidence himself.
But that is understood not to be the case and the Portuguese remains confident he will eventually prove to be a success at United.
Mourinho has yet to settle on his best starting XI at United, having already used 24 players.
He was maybe close to it when his team played out a 0-0 draw against Liverpool last week, following his orders perfectly.
But now he will have a rethink following the four-goal mauling in London with Michael Carrick being considered for a regular return to add some experience in midfield among other changes.
Mourinho believed he only needed four additions in the summer and got his men in Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Former Villarreal defender Bailly has looked the best acquisition but could now be out for more than a month with a knee injury while Mkhitaryan has been left out as he adapts to life in England.
Manchester United midfielder Juan MataManchester United midfielder Juan Mata has urged his side not to push the panic button
Juan Mata stressed that United should not press the panic button but admits the City game is vital to boost morale.
“If we win that game we will feel completely opposite,” said Mata.
“You have to be stable in your mind and keep working hard.
“It’s time to think about keeping the team together, being strong in our mind and facing the next game, which is a very important game in these conditions.”
