Pep Guardiola admits he’s having a mental battle with two-goal Sergio Aguero.
Sergio Aguero celebrates against West BromThe City boss says his Argentinean star hasn’t got a clue just how good he is.Aguero stamped his mark all over this game with two stunning strikes which proved the real game changers. And grateful Guardiola paid him the ultimate compliment by saying that, in the box, he’s as good as anyone in the world. That’s not bad coming from a man who has worked with the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Robert Lewandowski on a day-to-day basis. But Guardiola revealed his biggest task is drumming it into Aguero that he can be a true king among strikers. His two wonderful first half finishes ensured the Baggies were always kept at arm’s length. And when they did rally back after the break then Aguero helped Ilkay Gundogan finish them off.Sergio Aguero doesn't know how good he is according to Man City boss Pep GuardiolaGuardiola dumped Aguero on the bench for the Champions League clash with Barcelona, a decision which spectacularly backfired. He won’t be making that mistake when the Spanish giants roll into town tomorrow (TUES) and will no doubt tell his striker to mix it with the elite.Guardiola said: “He has to believe how good he is and how much we need him. At the end I just said thank you to him.“Without him we cannot achieve our target - it is impossible.“In the box he is up there with the very best. When he is good everything can happen in our team.“I am talking about he has to feel how important he is for us. “When he is happy of course all the team is happy.”Guardiola appears to have a problem with Aguero’s perceived sulking when things aren’t going his way.Pep Guardiola saw his Man City side return to winning waysHe added: “He is one the nicest players I ever trained in my career.“It is not about how many he scores because we are happy with the scoring, if he doesn’t score it doesn’t mean I am not happy with him.”So Guardiola’s six match winless run is over largely thanks to Aguero ending his six-game run without a goal.It all left West Brom boss Tony Pulis gasping for breath and dodging the after-match press conference. His No. 2 Dave Kemp explained the gaffer’s absence, joking: “He’s probably hanging himself somewhere!”“Look, they haven’t come from the job centre these City players. They have paid a lot of money for these guys and they are very good.”Two-goal Gundogan added: “The past couple of weeks have been hard to explain. Let’s say, the season starts now.”WEST BROM (4-2-3-1): Foster 6; Dawson 6, McAuley 6, Olsson 5 (Leko 51, 6), Nyom 6; Evans 6, Fletcher 5 (Morrison 51, 6); Chadli 5 (Robson-Kanu 87), McClean 7, Brunt 6, RONDON 7.
