STUDENTS mistook a monk for a member of the Ku Klux Klan yesterday – sparking safety fears across campus.
The man of the cloth was going about his daily business when he entered the university donning a white-hooded habit with rosary beads.
Students then took to social media claiming a member of the notorious racist group was making his way through Indiana University.
One even circulated an email saying: “There’s someone walking around campus in a KKK outfit holding a whip."
They added: "Please PLEASE PLEASE be careful out there tonight.
"Always be with someone and if you have no dire reason to be out of the building, I would recommend staying indoors if you’re alone.”
But the alleged “klansman” was in fact Father Jude McPeak, who works at the university.
The humiliating error has sparked backlash online, with many condemning the false alarm.
Some who tweeted the warning have deleted their accounts after a barrage of abuse.
