Champions Leicester lift Premier League trophy after Everton win

LEICESTER have lifted the Premier League trophy to cap their fairytale season amid a party atmosphere at the King Power Stadium.
CHAMPIONS: Leicester captain Wes Morgan and manager Claudio Ranieri lift the trophy
The Foxes, 5000/1 outsiders to win the league at the start of the season, were confirmed as champions on Monday evening after Tottenham failed to beat Chelsea.
It was the club's first top-flight title in their 132-year history and captain Wes Morgan and manager Claudio Ranieri were handed the trophy following the 3-1 win over Everton.
Star striker Jamie Vardy scored twice while Andy King also found the net to ensure the Toffees would not spoil the coronation. Kevin Mirallas claimed a consolation goal for the visitors.
CONSISTENCY: The Foxes have lost just three games in the league
"I am emotionally drained. It was an unbelievable feeling to finally get my hands on the trophy. I had to hold back the tears, I held them back and lifted it up – it was the best feeling in the world," Morgan said.
"Everyone has been going on about how I was going to lift the trophy and saying don't drop it and putting some pressure on me. There is no better feeling lifting the trophy.
"Hopefully, we can crack on from here. It is a big, big season next season but I want to enjoy the moment.
"It's like a dream but now it's a reality and you just want to enjoy it.
"We have always believed. We knew on our day we were as good as all the other teams. It was about consistebncy.
"We do everything together. There are no egos in our team."
HAVING A PARTY: Jamie Vardy's 24 goals have helped propel Leicester's journey
Ranieri said: "It is fantastic the people have been unbelievable thank you to them, they push behind us all season.
"I was very, very, concentrated on being calm and of course I am very very happy. I think it was an amazing moment for me I am not youngest.
"To lift the trophy is something special you are champion of the Premier League that is something special for me of course because I won some cups in Spain and Italy but to be champion here is fantastic."
GREAT DANE: Kasper Schmeichel followed in the footsteps of his dad Peter to become a champion
A year ago Leicester had been battling against relegation and were seven points from safety with nine games remaining.
The appointment of Ranieri was met with derision by many fans and pundits but the Italian has seen his side see off the challenge of Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester City.
They have lost just three of their 37 league games, winning 22 along the way. Their final game is against Chelsea next Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
Leicester fans had started the party early in the day outside the stadium while the club's owners offered supporters at the stadium free beer.
Before kick-off, world renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli performed Nessun Dorma and Time to Say Goodbye, revealing a Leicester shirt in the process.
The Italian had promised Ranieri two months ago that he would do a performance if he led Leicester to the title.
The Midlands club have already announced that an open-top bus parade will take place through Leicester on Monday May 16, the day after the final league games of the season.
