The Minister of Women Affairs, Jummai Alhassan, has reacted to the recent controversy over the abduction and forceful marriage of a 14-year-old girl identified as Ese.

The little girl was abducted by a certain Yunusa from her home and taken to Kano where she was forcefully converted to Islam and married by the man. The girl was allegedly last seen in Emir's palace where the parents were barred from taking her home. Alhassan has said she will ensure that those behind the evil plot be prosecuted and the girl released.

She further said that no one is above the laws of Nigeria as such, any found wanting in this case must be made to face the law no matter how highly placed.

She also said that there is no where it is written in  our laws that it is legal to marry a little girl of that age as she said the law of the land supersedes any religious, cultural and any other law in the land.
