Starsport understand the Italy manager - who visited the Blues’ training ground in Cobham, Surrey, before Christmas - wants to clear the air before the Azzurri play Spain at home on March 24.

Conte has become hot favourite to take charge at Stamford Bridge after interim boss Guus Hiddink leaves at the end of the summer.

It is believed his agent, Federico Pastorello, was in London today to have further talks with the west Londoners.

Conte will be emulating Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola, who was happy to confirm his departure for Manchester City this summer at the start of this month.

The path for Conte appears to have been cleared with his rival and successor at Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri, ready to sign a new contract.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini remains a possible rival to Conte if Chelsea cannot wrap up a deal with the 46-year-old.
