April Fools' Day: 11 weirdest stories but guess which are genuine?

IT'S that day of the year again – when thousands fall foul to bogus news stories and lousy pranks.

Daily Star Online has been deluged with suggested stories to try fooling our readers with.
Here we list some of the weirdest – ranging from feasible pizza loaves to impossible intergalactic restaurants.
But we've planted two stories that are actually GENUINE.
Guess which pair are the real deal in our poll at the foot of the article.
1) Biscuit connoisseur McVitie's is hiring actual penguins to choose the jokes on its famous chocolate biscuit bars.
The Scottish firm says it's taking a leaf out of the book from keepers at Birdland in Bourton-on-the-Water in Gloucestershire which is playing jokes over loudspeakers to penguins.
2) B&Q staff set out en mass yesterday to give the white cliffs of Dover a new lick of paint.
A team of 60 from across the South East stores started a mammoth 10-day task of covering a 300ft-high by 10-mile wide canvas.
The DIY chain says it will take 12,000 litres of Colours Exterior White Gloss paint, 700 rollers, 250 brushes and 6,000 hours combined work.
B&Q Dover store manager David Fowle said: "We are proud to put the B&Q name to what is arguably the most iconic canvas in British history."
3) Sky 1 is premiering a TV programme on Sunday in which three dogs attempt to fly a plane at 3,000ft.
Rescue dogs Shadow, Reggie and Alfie can be seen finishing flight school in Dogs Might Fly at 7pm.
Shadow, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier-Collie cross who features in a clip released yesterday, was scouted from 120,000 unwanted and abandoned dogs.
4) A foodie-loving property developer is introducing a third "maple" tap to all its 100,000-plus new build homes in England and Wales.
Elpam Purys, based in Quebec, Canada, says the third tap is commonplace in Canadian homes.
Serge Erable, chief executive at Elpam Purys, said: "In Canada, pure maple syrup is such a part of our daily lives that we all have a third tap for maple, next to 'hot' and 'cold', so we can add it to any dish – be it pancakes, ice cream, soup, or in baking."
5) The top two capsules of the London Eye will be transformed into luxury studio penthouses.
London Eye-sponsors Coco Cola said the homes will rotate 48 times a day at 26cm per second and be available to buy later this year.
It says arrangements for electricity, phone and postal services are currently in discussion.
Stephanie Francis, London Eye spokesman, said: "We expect interest to be very high."
6) A car insurance firm is launching "crèche courses" for children aged three and four who want to drive.
Marmalade, which ordinarily provides cover for 17 to 25-year-olds, said it is hosting the course at a Cambridgeshire nursery from today as kids are too often mimicking parents' naughty behaviour at the wheel.
Crispin Moger, CEO at Marmalade, said it was to "ultimately help reduce the risk of the child being in an accident in later years."
7) Car maker Honda is today unveiling plans for emoji registration plates.
It quotes research that says 96% of people under 30 years old want these personalised plates.
Shigastu Baka of Honda UK said: "We are really excited to offer our customers a fun, quirky way to customise their car."
8) McDonald's UK today announced the launch of a fully functioning restaurant on the moon.
The McMoon restaurant should open to customers in early 2017.
McMoon developer Astra McNaught said: "We are incredibly excited with this new frontier."
9) Pizza Hut UK is launching "pizza loaves".
The bread loaf inspired menu includes the "stuffed crust meat feast" with succulent pork and spicy beef, the "classic crust pepperoni feast" and the "gluten free vegetable supreme" including spinach and mushrooms.
Keith Griffiths, Pizza Hut's dough expert, said: "Now pizza fans can have the taste of their favourite flavours in sandwiches, toasties, whatever their appetite requires."
10) Mecca Bingo is campaigning to make the activity an Olympic sport.
The organisation wants it to be recognised by the International Olympic Committee by the games in Tokyo in 2020.
Mecca Bingo’s Lesly Clifford said: "We'll be working hard to demonstrate that the beloved British game of bingo is an ideal addition to the roster of sports."
11) The HSBC London Sevens has announced today that the Twickenham pitch will be transformed to its original state – a cabbage patch.
Head Groundsman Keith Kent said: "We are absolutely delighted to honour the ground's triumphant parentage."
