Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp remains unmoved on speculation surrounding a move for “extraordinary” midfielder Mario Gotze.
Klopp managed Gotze at Borussia Dortmund during his time as a manager in Germany, and the Liverpool boss is reportedly considering making a move for World Cup winner Gotze in the summer.
Gotze has one year remaining on his current deal at Bayern Munich after moving to the Allianz Arena from Dortmund for £30million in 2013.
But the German midfielder has found game time difficult to come by at the Bundesliga champions this season, starting just five league games in an injury-hit campaign, and scoring just one goal.
The 23-year-old has faced criticism over his training standards recently, Liverpool have been linked with a move in the summer, according to The Times and the Liverpool Echo.
When asked about Liverpool’s interest in signing Gotze, Klopp elected to try and move discussion towards Schalke defender Joel Matip, who will move to Anfield on a free transfer this summer.
“We can talk about Matip or something else, but not Mario.
“I am happy that he put in a good performance yesterday. But there is nothing to add from my side. He’s a player with extraordinary abilities and wants to return to full fitness after four months on the sidelines.”
