The Times claim the Portuguese is unhappy with the date for the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge because his players would have less than 72 hours to recover from European duty.
The match between the two clubs is likely to take place on Sunday 23 October.
And despite Mourinho’s concerns, it’s claimed United are resigned to facing their league rivals on that date.
The exact date for the fixture has yet to be finalised as it falls outside the first selection of television matches.
But a combination of the Europa League and the League Cup leaves the Premier League with few alternative options.
United are due to be in Europa action on Thursday October 20 and the Premier League are likely to move the Chelsea game from Saturday October 22 to Sunday.
However, Mourinho will reportedly still be happy with the scheduling.
It’s suggested the charismatic boss believes a turnaround shorter than three days is insufficient for such an important game.
Mourinho had wanted United to ask the Premier League to move the game to Monday October 24.
But with the fourth round of the League Cup scheduled for the Tuesday and Wednesday of that week, his request does not look feasible.
As a result, the fixture congestion has prompted his desire for a formal postponement.
It would be unprecedented for the Premier League to rubber stamp such a request - so it seems unlikely United will even bother asking the question.
