SAM ALLARDYCE will be offered the England job in the next 24 hours, according to reports.
The Sun say that the former West Ham and Bolton boss has been chosen by the FA ahead of Hull's Steve Bruce and Bournemouth chief Eddie Howe.
USA manager Jurgen Klinsmann was also considered but it is the Englishman who has got the nod.
The FA's Martin Glenn, Dan Ashworth and David Gill interviewed a number of candidates before opting for the Black Cats boss.
Allardyce impressed the panel with his ability to organise a side and impose a clear identity on the squad.
As for Sunderland, David Moyes is expected to be installed as early favourite to fill Allardyce's big shoes.
The Three Lions are looking for a new leader after Roy Hodgson resigned following the embarrassing 2-1 loss to minnows Iceland in the last 16 of Euro 2016.
McClaren's reign ended in disaster as England failed to qualify for Euro 2008 but Allardyce has managed to keep his position at the top of the English game.
He got West Ham back into the Premier League at the first time of asking in 2011 before leaving in 2015 and keeping Sunderland in the top flight last term.
