Mr Johnson, a 22-year-old from Liverpool, has received thousands of abusive messages to his Twitter handle @Adam__Johnson – since his namesake hit the headlines over sexual activity with a child.
He was called “a paedophile”, “a pervert” and “a nonce” on social media in March 2015.
At first he did not have a clue why and began panicking.

However within in a couple of hours he realised he had been mistaken for the ex-Manchester City star.
Paedo Johnson was found guilty of one count of sexual activity with a girl aged 15.
He had pleaded guilty to grooming and one count of sexual activity with a child at an earlier hearing.
Adam said: "It's absolutely crazy. Since the news broke that Johnson pleaded guilty to the first two charges my phone just exploded. It has not stopped going, just thousands of alerts and constant messages.
"A lot of it is just banter and people thinking it is funny, but there are some crazy people out there who are genuinely very angry and are trying to take it out on me. That is quite worrying and not something I particularly like to think about.”

'NONCE': Adam, 22, has received all kinds of abuse since the allegations broke

Some users even began to dig back through old tweets, believing they had been made by the footballer Johnson and using them to launch their attack.
All the way back in May 2012, Adam had tweeted: 'Screaming kids on the train... control your child', but one user dug it up and replied: 'We all know what this sick b****** did next'.
However, it took Adam a while to see the funny side.
It was March 2 last year when he first received a tweet from a Twitter user branding him a 'nonce’.”
