CHELSEA tried to jump on the Team GB bandwagon today - but got it all disastrously wrong.
They tweeted their congratulations to swimmer - and Chelsea fan - Jack Burnell after the 10,000m race today.
The Blues wrote: “Well done to @JackBurnell on picking up a #Bronze medal.”
Except Burnell hadn’t won a bronze medal at all.
He actually finished fifth - before falling out the field altogether after being disqualified.
Chelsea quickly deleted the tweet.
Burnell was in the Olympic medal mix at the end of the race but was denied in the frantic finale by the narrowest of margins.
Ferry Weertman of Holland won gold in 1hr 52mins 59.8secs.
Greece's Spiros Gianniotis recorded the same time, but clearly finished behind the Dutchman, and Burnell was one of three swimmers finishing in 1hr 53mins 02secs.
But he was left furious after being disqualified for picking up two yellow cards.
He fumed: "The one thing that ruins the competition is the referees.
"There are about 600 boats out there that are not needed and every person on the boat has no idea what they are doing, giving out cards left, right and centre for nothing.
"My first yellow was coming down the straight and I was second, no-one was either side of me and he pulls out a yellow card.
"I couldn't physically have touched anyone and I got a yellow card.
"I shook my head at the guy. This is meant to be the pinnacle of our sport and there are referees who haven't a clue what they are doing."
