James Milner: Liverpool star retires from international football

JAMES MILNER has announced his retirement from international football.

RUN OF THE MIL: James Milner has quit international football
The Liverpool star, 30, has quit after face-to-face talks with new England manager Sam Allardyce.
Milner ends his England career having accumulated 61 caps.
Milner said last week he was considering his future at international level after just playing three minutes as a substitute at Euro 2016 in the opening game with Russia.
He said: "With the good young players that we have coming through, it is pointless me taking up a spot just because I am reliable.”
The 30-year-old spoke to Allardyce this week and his decision was confirmed by the FA.
Milner played in four major tournaments for England – the World Cups in 2010 and 2014 and the European Championships in 2012 and 2016.
Of the squad that travelled to France only Wayne Rooney (115) and Joe Hart (63) earned more caps than him.
Milner’s only goal for England came against Moldova in September 2012, while he was captain as recently as March against Holland.
